2800mm Corrugator: China Market Application Status

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, China’s corrugated packaging industry has undergone rapid upgrading, especially in corrugators and flexo folder gluers. The 2800mm 300m/min corrugator has become the most popular model, replacing the previously mainstream 2500mm 300m/min line.

China’s corrugator industry has experienced clear development stages. In the 1990s, large factories relied on imported 1800mm lines at 150–200m/min. In the 2000s, domestic 1800mm machines were widely used, and the 2200mm model emerged in 2004. From 2010, 2500mm corrugators gradually became popular, and by 2015, they were fully mature, with speeds upgraded from 250m/min to 350m/min, while 1800mm lines gradually exited the market.

Today, the 2800mm corrugator leads the new round of upgrades. Many customers who previously ran 2200mm and 2500mm lines have invested in new 2800mm production lines. A typical customer installed a new 2800mm 7ply 300m/min corrugator, becoming the largest board plant in its region.

The 2800mm line supports high-frequency production of over 800 order changes per day. Key configurations include cassette-type single facers for roller changes in 10 minutes, high-speed automatic splicers running at 200–300m/min, web guiding, temperature control, production management systems, two sets of 1-second order-change slitter scorers, and automatic glue kitchens. These intelligent systems ensure stable and efficient production.

Customers are highly satisfied with the board quality: flat, strong sheets with extremely low glue consumption — below 1.2mm for B flute and below 1.5mm for C flute. With higher capacity, better stability and stronger adaptability, the 2800mm corrugator has become the core equipment for large and medium-sized carton plants to enhance competitiveness, marking a new level of intelligent and high-efficiency development in China’s corrugated industry.
